Any Child’s Lullaby - Tanya Brody/Traditional

My love, my pride, my treasure oh
My wonder new and pleasure oh
My child my beauty ever you
Who am I to bear you here?

You came into this world alone
With trials and lessons of your own
And I to guide you till you’re grown
Upon your path through life and change

Through every bump and every bruise
Through triumph and through tragic news
To help you in the life you choose
Is all my joy and all my pain

And when you’ve grown and left me dear
In times of need I’ll still be here
To break your fall and soothe your fear
Because you are my child my own

And as I nurse you at my breast
And lull you into peaceful rest
I see before me my own quest
To do for you the best I can

My love, my pride, my treasure oh
My wonder new and pleasure oh
My child my beauty ever you
Who am I to bear you here?

Bailiff’s Daughter of Islington - Traditional

There was a youth and a well beloved youth
And he was a squire’s son
He love the bailiff’s daughter dear
That lived in Islington

Ah but she was coy and she would not believe
That he did love her so
No nor would she at any time
Countenance to him show

But when his friends did understand
His fond and foolish mind
They sent him up to fair London
An apprentice for to bind

And when he had been seven long years
And his love he had not seen
“Many’s the tear I’ve shed for her sake
When little she thought of me”

All the maids of Islington
Went forth to sport and play
All but the bailiff’s daughter dear
She secretly stole away

She’s putten off her gown of grey
And put on her piggish attire
She’s up to fair London gone
Her true love to require

As she went along the road
The weather being hot and dry
There was she aware of her true love
At length came riding by

She stepped up to him as red as any rose
And took him by the bridle ring
“I pray you sir a penny give
To ease my weary limb”

“I prithee sweetheart canst thou tell
Whether thou dost know
The bailiff’s daughter of Islington?”
“She’s dead sir, long ago”

“Then I will sell my goodly steed
My saddle and my bow
I will unto some far country
Where no man doth me know”

“O stay o stay thou goodly youth
She standeth by thy side
She’s alive, she is not dead
And she is ready to be thy bride”

“O farewell grief and welcome joy
Ten thousand times and more
For I have seen my own true love
That I thought to see no more.”

Witch of the West-Mer-Lands - Archie Fisher

Pale was the wounded knight
Who bore the rowan shield
Loud and cruel were the raven’s cried
That feasted on the field

Saying black water cold and clear
Will never clean your wound
There’s none but the Witch of the West-Mer-Lands
Can make thee hale and sound

So turn turn your stallion’s head
‘Til his red mane flies in the wind
And the rider of the moon goes by
As the bright stars fall behind

And queer was the paling moon
When his shadow passed him by
Below the hills were the brightest stars
When he heard the owl cry

Saying why do you ride this way
And wherefore came you here?
I seek the Witch of the West-Mer-Lands
Who dwells by the winding mere

And it’s weary by the owl’s water
In a mist he found their way
‘Til through a cleft in the Kirkstane pass
Where the winding waters lay

He said “Lie down my brindle hound
And rest ye my good gray hawk
And thee my steed may graze thy fill
For I must dismount and walk

But come when you hear my horn
And answer swift the call
As sure as the sun will rise this morn
You’ll serve me best of all”

And it’s down to the water’s brim
He’s born the rowan shield
And the golden rod he has cast in
To see what the lake might yield

And wet rose she from the lake
And fast and fleet went she
One half the form of a maiden fair
With a jet black mare’s body

And loud long and shrill he blew
‘Til his steed was by his side
Over head the gray hawk flew
As swiftly he did ride

Saying “course well my brindle hound
Fetch me the jet black mare
Stoop and strike my good gray hawk
And bring me the maiden fair.”

She said “Pray sheath thy silvery sword
Lay down thy rowan shield
I see by the briny blood that flows
You’ve been wounded in the field.”

And she stood in a gown of velvet blue
Bound ‘round with a silver chain
She’s kissed his pale lips once and twice
And three times ‘round again

And she’s bound his wounds with the golden rod
Full fast in her arms he lay
And he has risen hale and sound
With the sun bright in the day

She said “Ride with your brindle hound at heel
And your good gray hawk at hand
There’s none can harm the knight who’s lain
With the Witch of the West-Mer-Lands

Falling into something - Tanya Brody

Chorus
Oh I’m falling into something
Something that’s sent from up above
Head over heels into something
Maybe it might be love

I don’t know how it happened it was all so sudden
Like a bolt out of the blue
There I was minding my own business
I looked up and there was you
Those beautiful eyes a casual glance
A surreptitious smile sent my way
Butterflies in my stomach, my heart like a kite
Are causing me to say

Chorus

I wasn’t expecting ever to love again
I’d set out for life on my own
Every time I had given my heart
I’d ended up hurt and alone
How did this happen that my heart was so taken
I may never know
But now that this feeling is taking me over
I want it to grow

Chorus

All of these thoughts and all of these feelings
Are spinning my head around and around
If you run fast enough love will finally catch you
And I feel as though my feet are finally hitting the ground *

Opportunity seldom knocks twice
I shouldn’t wait for a second ring
But leaping in blind with both feet leading
Hardly seems like a sensible thing.
I’d like to think that my instincts won’t fail me
That this is as good as it seems
All I want is your love, your strong arms around me
And to know that this isn’t a dream

Chorus Twice

Choose Joy – Scott Beach/Tanya Brody/Anonymous

Long may she reign in majesty glorious
Ever victorious, God save our queen

You passed on before me
Your light guides my way
Your work here in this life was done
Now you get to play
And fly with the angels and guide us all home
Those of us left behind must carry your light on
Choose Joy is your motto and now I find
Every time I think of you
Your joy fills my mind

Your magic surrounds us
It fills us up with love
Even as we all sit here
Knowing you’re up above
Your light shines on all of us
Old friends and new
Your kindness and grace helps us all to renew
Our pledge to each other to continue on
To make the lessons you’ve taught us
Keep going strong

For the ones we love dearest
We never truly lose
And your light will shine down
On all who will choose joy

God save our gracious queen
God save our loving queen
God save our queen
Let her light shine on us
Let her memory be with us
Let her love fill our hearts
God save our queen

If – Tanya Brody

If you will give me all your hurt
I will take away your pain
If you will give me all your tears
Only joy will here remain

If you will give me all you long for
I’ll see every wish come true
If you will share your heart’s secret places
I’ll show mine to you

If you will mend this broken heart
I’ll surrender all my grief
If you will remain by my side
I will finally be at peace

If you will take all my laughter
I will give you happiness
If you will accept my heart’s desire
My love I will confess

If you will give me all your troubles
I will grant serenity
If you will listen, I will tell
How much you mean to me

If you will help me see my path
I will always walk by your side
If we can help each other through
We’ll always have a guide

If you will hold me in your arms
And soothe away my fears
If you will give me all your love
I will give to you my years

Henry and Susie – Tanya Brody

“I’m really sorry”, Henry said
“I don’t see us working out as a plausible thread
We should see other people, take some time
But I’d still like to consider you a friend of mine.”

Susie stared blankly, not knowing what to do
Feeling kind of like something Henry’d wiped off his shoe
Reeling from the words that Henry said
When these unbidden words came into her head.

“No, I’m sorry but we can’t be friends
I would really rather never see you again
You treated me badly and worse at the end
So no, I’m sorry but we can’t be friends”

Henry just smiled as he babbled on about
How sorry he was that things hadn’t worked out.
How she’d misunderstood him and all of that crap
While Suzie listened to his clap trap thinking

“No I’m sorry but we can’t be friends
This line you’re giving’s driving me ‘round the bend
You’ve broken my heart so it may never mend
So no, I’m sorry but we can’t be friends”

As Henry droned on, Suzie’s mind ranged
Over all of the things about him that had changed
How he used to be sweet and he used to be kind
And she wondered if that all had been in her mind.

He’d used her and hurt her to his own content
‘Til all of her heart and her spirit were spent
Now he was talking aoubt their “good times together”
And in Susie’s mind were the words “Whatever” and

“No I’m sorry but we can’t be friends
You’ve done enough damage now it’s time to end
This farce of a love affair and the pain that it’s been
So no, I’m sorry but we can’t be friends.”

Henry finally shut up and Susie smiled
She decided to let Henry stew for a while
Henry coughed nervously and nodded his head
And as he took a deep breath, Susie said,

“No, I’m sorry but we can’t be friends
I’d really rather never see you again.
You’ve treated me badly and now make amends
So no, I’m sorry but we can’t be friends.”

“No I’m sorry but we can’t be friends
You’ve been a jerk from the start to the end
The last straw was you hitting on my best friend
So no, I’m sorry but we can’t be friends.”

“No I’m really sorry but… My humble apologies but no… I’m sorry but we can’t be friends. No, no, no, no.

The Man I Never Knew - Tanya Brody

I once caught the eye of a handsome young laddie
And I a young maiden so sweet and so pure
I longed to leave my innocence far behind me
And for my maiden’s plague, he seemed my cure

Oh sweet young things wander and idle minds ponder
How games of love work and young men go to
How easy it is for a lass to be fooled by
The Man I Never Knew

He kissed my hand once and I followed blindly
My fondest wish was to be lead astray
But as he lead me into the bed chamber
How was I to know that he’d lose his way

Oh the thought of a strong pair of arms wrapped around her
Is enough to turn any young maiden to goo
Perhaps my great gusto gave a great fright to
The Man I Never Knew

He kissed and caressed me as he undressed me
He fondled and tickled and teased me so fine
But when it came to it he just couldn’t do it
He sighed and he slept that dear man of mine

Oh even the birds and the little bees know it
That in games of love, it always takes two
But his honor it got in the way of his prowess
The Man I Never Knew
The Man I Never Knew

Wishful Thinking - Tanya Brody

Everyone has their own set of problems
Yours are no better or worse than mine
My cross to bear is just as heavy
It just happens to be a different kind.

All of our problems and all of our pain
Drive us round and round in this crazy old game
And we all hurt each other again and again
At least that’s how it seems to me.

I'm just doing my best in this life on my own
And I've spent so much of it being alone.
With no one to love, no place to call home

Everyone thinks they know best
What is right and what is wrong
Minds close off from the alternatives
Because it's too hard to get along

Here in the darkness we struggle on
To the rest of the world we are blind
Perhaps if we just opened up our hearts
We'd find a world of a different kind

I know this sounds pompous and full of myself
With my opinions I shouldn't be so free
But if we stopped and opened our eyes
Perhaps we could learn to see

Everyone has their own path to travel
Some are smooth and some are rough
All are valid to the traveler
Even if the lesson's tough

Our personal darkness allows us to hide
From those things that we don't want to see
But even if the light shines down on us all
Could we all just learn to be?

I know I don't have all the answers to this
My wishful thinking is a waste of time
But I'd like to think of the marks left on this world
That one of them might be mine.

Health to the Company - Traditional

Kind friends and companions, come join me in rhyme
Come lift up your voices in chorus with mine
Let us drink and be merry all grief to refrain
For we may and might never all meet here again.

Here’s a health to the company and one to my lass
Let us drink and be merry all out of one glass
Let us drink and be merry all grief to refrain
For we may and might never all meet here again

Here’s a health to the handsome lad that I love so well
For style and for grace there is none can excel
There’s a smile upon his countenance as I sit upon his knee
Sure there’s no place in this wide world that I’d rather be

Here’s a health to the company and one to my lass
Let us drink and be merry all out of one glass
Let us drink and be merry all grief to refrain
For we may and might never all meet here again

My ship lies at anchor she is ready to dock
I wish her safe landing without any shock
And if ever we should meet again by land or by sea
I will always remember your kindness to me

Here’s a health to the company and one to my lass
Let us drink and be merry all out of one glass
Let us drink and be merry all grief to refrain
For we may and might never all meet here again

Our paths must diverge now go they up or go down
In every tavern in every town
I will always raise a glass to you by the firelight’s glow
For your hearts will be with me wherever I go

Here’s a health to the company and one to my lass
Let us drink and be merry all out of one glass
Let us drink and be merry all grief to refrain
For we may and might never all meet here again
